What made you choose animal behavior?

I chose to major in animal behavior because of my love of animals. My family had many different animals as pets when I was growing up 和 being around them always made me happy.

What is your career objective? 

My goal after I graduate is to work primarily with dogs. I’d like to become a trainer for service 和 therapy dogs. Working with animals 和 getting to help people who need them would be my dream job. 

How has what you’ve learned in your courses so far prepared you for your future?  

I am currently enrolled in a new program at Carroll that focuses on canine care 和 training. 这学期, I have class 和 then lab at the 沃基肖 Humane Society where I get to be h和s on with the dogs 和 apply what I’ve learned in class. Next semester, I get to foster a dog from the Humane Society, which will live on campus with me. I will be responsible for training it 和 finding a possible adoptive family for it. This program alone has already advanced my knowledge on canine body language 和 training techniques. 

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member 和 what impact has that had on your education?

I’ve always preferred smaller class sizes because I feel more comfortable sharing my thoughts 和 asking questions. What I love about Carroll is that the professors are approachable 和 willing to go out of their way to help me. They really do want you to succeed.  

What is the most memorable experience you’ve had in your education at Carroll?

One of my favorite assignments was for my animal behavior lab, freshman year. Each student got their own Beta fish 和 the goal was to train it to swim through a hoop, using a clicker 和 treats. I never really thought you could train a fish 和 accomplishing this was pretty cool. 

How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person?

Going to Carroll has allowed me to double major in animal behavior 和 psychology. 心理学 has always been interesting to me 和 ties in with my animal behavior major. I also really enjoy taking pictures 和 have been able to take several 摄影 还有类.

If you were recommending your major to a prospective student, what would you tell them?

I would recommend the animal behavior program to anyone who wants to work with animals. I love that I’m able to work with dogs every week at the Humane Society 和 being able to train a dog that will be living with me for a semester will give me invaluable experience.

How has financial aid made a difference in your life?

我收到了一些 奖学金 through Carroll as well as other financial aid. It allows me to concentrate more on my classes 和 studying 和 to worry less about money.

What’s your favorite place to study on campus?

My favorite place to study on campus is the 图书馆.
